Metal Roofing Systems Design Manual
The Metal Building Manufacturers Association published the Metal Roofing Systems Design Manual in 2000 - a one-of-a-kind design and detail manual for architects, manufacturers, engineers, specifiers, builders and others involved in the metal roofing industry. For over two years, a team of MBMA roofing systems members and association staff has worked to develop the manual.
It includes: systems components, substrates, specifications and standards, retrofit, common industry practices, design, installation, energy and fire protection.

Planting Green Roofs and Living Walls - Revised 2008 Edition
For some, green roofs (the installation of a waterproofing membrane, drainage mat, soil, and vegetation) are well understood and discussed. However, for those with little experience or no understanding of "roof greening" (the authors description), roof greening might as well be spoken in another language.
Planting Green Roofs and Living Walls presents, in both general and specific terms, the advantages of roof greening and those factors that should be taken into account during the design phase.
By the authors own admission, this book is not designed to provide detailed descriptions of system design and installation procedures. Rather, it provides a logical and systematic presentation on the benefits of roof greening (amenity value, food production, aesthetic value, increased roof life, energy efficiency, and public relations).
The authors begin with a discussion on the history and background of roof greening through the centuries and as currently practiced in the various continents - Europe, North America, Asia, South America, and Australia. Although chapter three does present those components and considerations that should be included when designing a roof greening (e.g., structural load, irrigation, weight of materials, drainage layer, root barrier, etc.), specification information and drawing details will need to be obtained from the individual manufacturer.
Compared to the technical books that one usually reads or refers to with regard to green roofs, this 254-page, hardcover book devotes a chapter to plant selection for green roofs, and factors that should be considered. These factors include irrigation, drainage, temperature, and wind.
The book concludes with support data in the appendix. These include Roof - Greening Plant Directory, Facade - Greening Plant Directory, and a list of suppliers.
* REVISED in 2008 - It now has 328 pages and 250 photographs, charts, and diagrams
